5 Ways Jesus Has Said "I Love You"

People always say “Jesus loves you” but what does that really mean? Love, in this world, looks different for everyone. Some feel deprived of it, some feel undeserving to receive it, and some have been hurt by it. But Jesus’ “I love you” looks a lot different. His love is not conditional or fleeting, Jesus’ love is steadfast, unconditional, boundless, and deeply personal! There is nothing we can do to alter the love Jesus has for us and that will stand true every day. As we rest in this truth, let's look at 5 ways Jesus says “I Love you.” 

  1. Jesus says “I love you” by providing for us

Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” 

He provides exactly what we need and sometimes we don’t even know we need it! Whether that is providing material things, community, or new opportunities, He has already gone before us and prepared a way! 

2. Jesus says “I love you” by caring for us

Psalm 23:1-3 "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul.”

This Psalm is a great reminder of how deeply Jesus cares for us. He gives us rest, he guides us, and he renews us! As our shepherd He doesn’t let us wander off, he seeks us out and cares for us as a shepherd cares for his sheep. Jesus is so caring to look after us so intentionally!

3. Jesus says “I love you” by never forgetting us

Isaiah 49:15-16 Though she may forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”

He will not forget you! Sometimes our circumstances make us feel like God has forgotten about us, but this scripture shows us that we are unforgettable! Engraved in the scripture emphasizes the permanent and unbreakable bond, assuring us that God’s presence is constant, even in the face of adversity!

4. Jesus says “I love you” by changing our hearts

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

The Spirit produces what the flesh does not! When we surrender ourselves to Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives within us and we walk by the Spirit instead of by our fleshly desires. He loves us so much that the Holy Spirit works inside of us to reflect His light and change our hearts! 

5. Jesus says “I love you” by dying on the cross 

Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 

This is a debt that we owed, but Jesus paid that debt for all of us. He died in our place! Wow, what a sacrifice! His commitment to humanity is not based on our merit or righteousness, but rather on His boundless compassion, grace, and love for us. Reflect on the profound nature of love that Jesus has for us! 

Where in your life can you see Jesus saying “I Love You?” Experiencing Jesus' love isn’t confined to extraordinary moments. It’s often in the quiet, everyday circumstances that we feel His love most deeply. Whether it’s a sudden sense of peace in a moment of anxiety, the support of a friend during difficult times, or the simple beauty of a sunrise, these moments can be seen as a reflection of Jesus’ love in our lives!
